A cave is melted into the lower cliff face, casting a portion of and opening onto the glass plinth of the chapel. The height of the plinth is a datum line cast to register the average high tide so that the relative seasonal differences can be recognized. The tides of the Fundy basin are the highest in the world. The sands pulling in and out with the tide would gently erode and sculpt the shape the glass plinth over time.
